This season the stage for the show was a business class airplane. It reminded me of Britney Spears’ Toxic video. From watching the show I noticed that the collection was a mixture of blues, blacks and silvers. There was also some dip dye thrown in there.
The things I loved about the collection were the shoes. They were super simple, but had 3 straps on the ankles, which I thought were really cute. I thought the beaded leggings were very charming. Also, the bead work was really amazing. Very intricate and perfectly placed. But the 20’s inspired dresses were the stand out for me. Very Chanel, yet modern with a flash of upper back skin. Made it a bit younger and slightly unexpected. I say slightly because the show had a few problems.
For one, black, blue and silver are by far my favorite colors. But in this show they were soo washed out. The blue carpet of the set made the blue garments look dumpy and didn’t allow the clothing to stand out. There was just something lacking. It’s almost as if the collection was meant to blend into the environment. As if Haute Couture was turning into an everyday type thing. Possibly the over accessibility of the fashion industry?
By far this was the weakest Haute Couture show from Chanel. I don’t know if it was the set, but it was lackluster. It just didn’t flow smoothly and the black section was too much for Spring. It was too much bulk for the coming months. The Pre-Fall collection had more spunk. It felt like a real show…this wasn’t the best that Karl can do.
